10 Packing Tips
Let professional movers pack the fragile items, they are only liable for things they pack themselves.- Pack one room at a time. Avoid packing things from different rooms in same box, that will make unpacking more difficult
- Pack Ahead – first thing to pack garage, attic, storage areas, things not used frequently
- Pack clothing and linens in suitcases
- Wrap small, easily lost items in small sealable plastic bags brightly coloured tissue paper before placing them in boxes
- Clearly label each box with your name, general contents, which side is up arrow, ‘Fragile’ if contents are breakable, which room box belongs in, and for safety, avoid marking ‘valuable’
- Have area rugs professionally cleaned before you move so they are rolled and wrapped
- Use coloured labels on boxes and assign one colour per room to make unpacking quicker
- Use small boxes for heavy items, large boxes for light ones and medium boxes for everything in between. Heavier items should be placed at the bottom, lighter ones on top. If you can’t easily pick up the box, repack to make it lighter to avoid breaking the box, it’s content…and your back!
- Never pack flammables or combustibles
